Clair de Brumes Présage Pouilly-Fumé 2022
15433520 | $32.75
A new arrival in the Saget family, “Présage” is born of the Pouilly-Fumé lands. Why fumé, which means smoked? Well, Loire popular culture has it that at maturity, the sauvignon blanc grape is covered with a grey bloom.
The 2022 vintage is the first of Présage that already expresses the accent of its terroir. Sparkling, yellow-gold with green glints, it holds aromas of flint twinned with citrus. Fine tension and structure, a mouth that works with lemony and saline notes, and a discreet umami.
Good with trout grilled with dill, and lime.
Tiago Teles Gilda 2023
13629001 | $28.60
Wine critic Tiago Teles decided, in 2009, to make wine instead of talking about it. In his native Bairrada (Portugal), from two hectares of indigenous vines, he created the “Gilda”, made largely from the alfrocheiro grape.
A fairly dense red with violet highlights that promise a fleshy texture. The nose smells rich on red and black raspberries, blackberries and blackcurrants. The feeling of fresh fruit gives length and elegance to this digestible Portuguese wine with tannins that are present, but soft.
Pour it into a carafe to rest and soften for twenty minutes or so before drinking.
Giacomo Borgogno & Figli No Name 2021
12024245 | $51.50
In 2020, Andréa Farinetti was refused the right to use the Barolo appellation by the selection committee because of the atypical colour of one of his samples of the 2005 vintage. Result: 8,000 bottles of Barolo 2005 declassified to Langhe Nebbiolo.
Oscar Farinetti, owner of Borgogno, said to his son: “Easy… don’t give this wine a name.” Nice publicity stunt for this particular vintage which, ever since, has been called “No Name”.
It’s a pleasure to swirl this satin-red wine, to smell the balsamic aromas of peppery marjoram and currants, to taste every mouthful of this refined Nebbiolo just for the sheer pleasure of the tastebuds.
A disguised Barolo, just right with feathered game.
There are a few left in the SAQ network. Happy hunting!
